POST-VASECTOMY CARE

YOU HAVE JUST HAD A VASECTOMY. THESE FEW INFORMATIONS IS A REMINDER FOR THE COMING DAYS.

  • During the first 12 hours, it is strongly recommended to cover the genital area with a pack of ice (10-20 minutes per hour for 12 hours). Lay the ice on the underwear. A piece of tissue must interpose between the skin and the ice.
  • The scrotum may swelling in a moderate way and take a blue stain. This is normal, unless swelling becomes important. Color will disappear in 7 to 15 days.
  • If you have pain, in addition to ice, the use of an analgesic (Acetaminophène 500 mg, Tylenol strong, is advised). You can take 2 co. At 4 hours (max 8 co. /day). not Aspirin. Ibuprophene (Advil, Motrin) is adequate.
  • Wear one underwear tight the first 24 hours and then during the day for 4 days.
  • You are advised to avoid significant physical efforts for the coming days (5 to 7 days).
  • You can remove the dressing in 4 hours.  A shower is allowed tomorrow morning and a bath in 48 hours. Use clear water, no soap directly on the wound.  Sexual relations can be taken after 4 to 5 days. The first ejaculations may be stained with blood. Don’t worry, if the problem persists, consult your doctor.
  • There is no point to remove.
  • You have been given a prescription for your spermogram in 2-3 months. It is estimated to be about thirty ejaculation to empty the system.  You must first make appointments to your local hospital or private collection center. Abstinence (no ejaculation) is requested for the previous 3 days.  Follow the instructions of your collection center so as not to distort the results.  You must submit with your prescription.
  • The report will be communicated by telephone within 3 to 4 weeks.  If you did not receive this result, please call (450) 624-1844.
  • As long as your sterility is not confirmed, you must consider yourself fertile and take appropriate contraception.
